Or run it from a terminal window. (This has the advantage that you can pass
"-v" to it if needed.)

1.1.8 has two security holes which are fixed in 1.1.10. If your copy is not
one to which fixes have been backported, you should upgrade.

There is no 64-bit version, but there are 64-bit builds for various CPUs.

Not necessarily. They could be in /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.8 (as they would
be here, were 1.1.8 installed). Yes, this is on amd64.

(Note that the next release *won't* put them in a directory named for the
release. It'll put them in a directory named for the shared library. There is
a good reason for this.)

xine-plugin is recommended over gxineplugin.
