Re: xine briefly opening then closing unexpectedly

Please look in the file .xsession-errors in your home dorectory
and look for error messages. After gxine fails, look at the bottom
of that file for the [g]xine related error messages.
It is more than likely the absence of or the corruption of some
plugin which is expected to reside in the gzine plugins directory.
In my case, the plugins directory is
 /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.8
Your installed version of xine may be different from mine.

Also, if you are using the 64 bit version of [g]xine, then
the plugins dir will be in /usr/lib64/xine/plugins/1.1.8

Caution: When using 64 bit xine, then you "might" have to
use the 64 bit version of firefox in order for firefox to
use the browser plugin for gxine. If firefox does not pick
up this plugin automagically from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/gxineplugin.so,
then you need to create a synlink in the firefox plugins dir and
point it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/gxineplugin.so.

PS: Using 64 bit browser opens another can of worms:
 such as there is no 64 bit flash plugin available :(
 Someone had created a wrapper to let 64 bit browser use
 the 32 bit flash plugin. I have lost track of it.

P.S: gxine uses the same plugins dir as xine.

 We have gxine 05.9. It has worked quite well, but then at some point,
 when I opened audio or video files, it would open, then a few seconds
 later close unexpectedly. Now I notice that even if I go to the
 applications menu and click on gxine, it does the same thing. It will
 open briefly, then shut down without a "crash" message to explain the
 problem.
 
 Any suggestions? Thanks!
