Thought I did have it on half. I switched back and forth a few times and 
seemed to see fewer problems and dropped frames with normal temporal. I 
have other 1080i and some 720p channels and they seem to work ok.
Something else I just noticed looking at the log:

vo_vdpau: deinterlace: temporal_spatial

Why is it showing that mode when that is not what is set? Look near the 
end of the log I posted. Using a 8400 silent pcie which has the g98 and 
512meg ram. Temporal_spatial is just out of reach for this card.
