File size too large

I don't know why i use the Xvid codec in VirtualDub to convert a *.dat
file (27MB) to Avi file will as large as 36MB. The quality is very good.
But the file size is too large. Whether any person know how to minize
the file in Xvid setting or in virtualdub setting.
 
The other problem is the the Xvid in virtualdub cannot use 2 pass mode.
 
Any person know how to solve this problem. Please post
