Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox for September 15 is now online at: > http://www.useit.com/alertbox/location-finders.html Summary: Finding addresses and location information on company websites has gotten dramatically easier, but users increasingly turn to search engines first for this task. ---------------------------------- User Experience 2008 conference > Chicago, November 2-7 > Amsterdam, November 16-21 In-depth training: > 31 full-day tutorials Keynote presentations: > Don Norman: Sociable Design > Chris Nodder: Usability for Evil Full program: > http://www.nngroup.com/events DEADLINE to save 10% on Chicago registration: next Friday, Sept. 26 ---------------------------------- RESEARCH UPDATE 2008 One of the seminars at the User Experience conference is a bit unusual, and we've gotten many questions about it, so let me try to explain. The "Research Update 2008" day can be summarized as follows: "We read the academic literature, so you don't have to." We're currently making our way through about a thousand research papers published within the last year, to select the rare handful with the most practical applications. We won't cover ways of making a virtual reality browser or a T-shirt that glows in different colors depending on the wearer's mood, as much as such research does represent potential new thinking in user interfaces. Research Update focuses on the research results you need to know to stay in the forefront of the profession, because they change the way you think about practical design projects: new usability methods, deep insights into user behavior on the Internet, and UI innovations that actually improve websites or applications. > http://www.nngroup.com/events/tutorials/research_update.html ---------------------------------- COPENHAGEN SEMINARS Visiting Denmark to present some of our best-selling seminars: > http://www.intrateam.dk/Default.aspx?ID=3562 ---------------------------------- GET READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS Now is a good time to review the 8 steps to preparing a site for the holiday shopping season, because there's still time to take some of the recommended actions: > http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20040906.html
