Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox for July 25 is now online at:
   http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20050725.html

Summary:
Many design elements work for Amazon.com mainly because of its
status as the world's largest and most established e-commerce site.
Normal sites should not copy Amazon's design.

Announcing the User Experience 2005 conference

   > Boston, October 23-28
   > London, November 13-18

Offering 33 full-day tutorials over 6 days. Come for as few or as many
days as you like: each day is an independent topic.

E-commerce is back in town:
We are seeing a very strong trend in the consulting side of our business
of e-commerce sites investing more in usability this year.
Accordingly, I have added several new seminars, including:

  > Merchandising products online
  > Wish lists and gift-giving in e-commerce
  > Lessons from eBay

I am particularly looking forward to the eBay day, where three senior user
experience managers will explain how they successfully integrate multiple
disciplines to create a world-class e-commerce platform and community
experience. These are lessons from folks who know how to get things done
in an organization: valuable for anybody else who faces organizational
issues, whether or not you run an e-commerce site.

Many other new seminars, including:
   > Intranet search
   > Quantifying Web usability
   > Specialized usability methods
   > Search engine marketing
   > Advanced CSS
   > Content management systems

Of course we also have many seminars on user testing, information
architecture, writing for the Web, Web-based applications, intranet
usability, Web metrics, design patterns, personas, and many other classic
topics.
