I think, if the feedback is big enough and there are enough people willin= g=20 to contribute (and I think there already is a trend towards that) we shou= ld=20 first consolidate and renew the build: 1. either maybe entirely use maven (the main build still is ant, but= at=20 least dependencies are fetched using maven, maybe some deployment as well= )=20 or go on to gradle. The special things in the build are the selftest and the automatic=20 publishing at webtest.canoo.com ... This probably could easier be address= ed=20 using gradle =E2=80=93 but more developers are used to maven. May be with more initial support I would be able to support. I=E2=80=99m Developer and do nowadays write most of my test in Groovy =E2= =80=93 my=20 webtests-suite (XML-based) is only maintained. For me the main drawback ist he =E2=80=9Eout-of-date=E2=80=9C browser-sup= port (including JS)=20 via htmlunit. Years ago the most webtest supporter were also htmlunit=20 developer. I also believe it would be very sad to let WebTest die as its core idea a= nd=20 concept still are very valid and helpful even in actual development=20 projects. I=E2=80=99m still using Webtest. I th= ink, it=E2=80=99s a very=20 good tool. So far I could cover all I wanted with it. Ease of use,=20 reporting, possibilities to structure the tests and reusing packages, all= =20 that is just fine. So, I don=E2=80=99t like to see it just fade away like that. I happen to like using Webtest and find it truly disappointing that the=20 product has slipped into the state is has. I wonder if the sponsors woul= d=20 be willing to donate it or host it elsewhere=E2=80=A6 or if that would ev= en help.=20 It is difficult for me to gauge the level of interest or use in the produ= ct=20 via this mailing list. It was once much more active and leads me to beli= eve=20 that most have moved to another tool. I work with a test team that are n= ot=20 developers, and the ability to write test scripts using Ant XML is much=20 easier for them to grasp than writing Java code. I was able to get a version of Webtest running on htmlunit 2.12. But the= =20 changes in 2.14 and dependencies are a little more daunting and I have no= t=20 had the time required to get a good feel for how all of the pieces work=20 together so that I can make updates.
