Ravi, there are widely published best practices for bandwidth consideration
handling and numberous pro/con measures for the various video/audio formats.
(Akamai, VitalStream and others have easy-to-find guides for you...)
Determining which is the best case for you depends on your audience,
business and technical constraints, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by "recommended formats compatible for both PC /
Mac without any 3rd party player downloads"... You mean a media format that
"plays" without a... player? Hmm...

Rather, perhaps consider building in the tech to handle MIME-type support
detection and automatically use a format that the visitor's tech environment
is known to support. (So that no action in support of the technology is
required on the part of your viewers.)
