Sorry - I was careless in composing my response.  What I meant was, that 
I check the Javascript console. Nothing there.  Today I tried it again 
and of course it works now.  Go figure.

Looking in preferences, it appears to me that I have scripts set so they 
CANNOT open unrequested windows (Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & 
Plugins,  Open unrequested windows is not checked.   Yet this AM, it 
works without any change on my part, except a reboot.  So this is 
clearly NOT the fault of cthumb which is the real issue here.

Thanks for responding with good questions.  Consider this a user (or 
browser) error.
