ahhh, I feel stupid now!

oPopup.document.body.innerHTML =
document.getElementById('context').innerHTML

should do it.

i have the contents of my menu in contextmenu.inc - how do I get that into a
popup created using createpopup?

I tried oPopup.location.href but that doesn't work. I hope I don't have to
manually write it in using innerHTML?

Thanks so much for your help, I think this is going to be good...

Another solution could be captureEvent/onReleaseCapture or something
like it...

but for menus createPopup is best I think.
