undefined symbol: ap_user_id

I'm trying to run mod_fastcgi ( 2.4.2 ) on a Redhat ES 3 server. The fastcgi
compiling seems to work fine, but on apache startup I get the following
error.

Cannot load /usr/lib/httpd/modules/mod_fastcgi.so into
server: /usr/lib/httpd/modules/mod_fastcgi.so: undefined symbol: ap_user_id

Any suggestions?
