It's not dead.  It just smells funny :-)

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Actually, I am one of the creators of  
FastCGI and I am amazed and pleased to see it has had a life of its  
own more than 10 years after I released it back at Open Market.

It seems to get used quite a bit for Ruby and PHP deployments for the  
process isolation aspect as well as for some load balancing  
applications.

Hopefully the community will continue to grow it and maintain it if  
there is indeed a need.
