I'm running 1.2.1 and Galeon 1.3.1, and it works fine for me. I don't know much about RedHat, maybe they aren't using Xft2 yet? Try "ldd galeon-bin" (in /usr/bin or wherever your galeon-bin is), and see what Xft it's linking to.
