Hi, I noticed that galeon is so greedy that, given enough time to run, it eats up so much memory/swap space it depletes itself of necessary resources and dies. Admittedly, I have quite a lot of tabs open (right now, there's one window with 28 tabs and another with 17). and galeon may be open for more than 24 hrs at a time. When I'm done reading in one I might close it. However, it seems that memory is only freed when I shutdown galeon completely. Right now, after re-opening galeon with all windows/tabs open, top shows this: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ SWAP COMMAND 6940 pc 9 0 104m 104m 28m R 0.0 20.7 1:06.79 8 galeon 6942 pc 8 0 104m 104m 28m S 0.0 20.7 0:00.00 8 galeon 6943 pc 9 0 104m 104m 28m S 0.0 20.7 0:00.67 8 galeon 6944 pc 9 0 104m 104m 28m S 0.0 20.7 0:00.19 8 galeon PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ SWAP COMMAND 6940 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m S 2.3 19.9 5:21.94 42m galeon 6942 pc 8 0 142m 100m 25m S 0.0 19.9 0:00.00 42m galeon 6943 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m R 0.0 19.9 0:07.58 42m galeon 6944 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m S 0.0 19.9 0:01.02 42m galeon 11142 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m S 0.0 19.9 0:00.00 42m galeon 11143 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m S 0.0 19.9 0:00.02 42m galeon 11144 pc 9 0 142m 100m 25m S 0.0 19.9 0:00.01 42m galeon PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ SWAP COMMAND 6940 pc 12 0 291m 86m 9584 R 5.6 17.1 39:33.44 205m galeon 6942 pc 8 0 291m 86m 9584 S 0.0 17.1 0:00.01 205m galeon 6943 pc 9 0 291m 86m 9584 R 0.0 17.1 2:36.12 205m galeon 6944 pc 9 0 291m 86m 9584 S 0.0 17.1 0:02.49 205m galeon 11142 pc 9 0 291m 86m 9584 S 0.0 17.1 0:00.00 205m galeon 11143 pc 9 0 291m 86m 9584 S 0.0 17.1 0:00.03 205m galeon 11144 pc 9 0 291m 86m 9584 S 0.0 17.1 0:00.11 205m galeon Until now, one can see a steady increase of virtual memory/swap space in use that can be explained by more or less continuous activity: browsing in one tab, closing tabs and opening new ones. The next view is interesting because used virtual memory/swap space have still increased although there was no user-initiated activity at all as I was asleep. :-) PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ SWAP COMMAND 6940 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m R 0.0 18.4 45:12.91 258m galeon 6942 pc 8 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 0:00.01 258m galeon 6943 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 3:03.14 258m galeon 6944 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 0:02.68 258m galeon 11142 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 0:00.00 258m galeon 11143 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 0:00.03 258m galeon 11144 pc 9 0 351m 92m 13m S 0.0 18.4 0:00.11 258m galeon PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ SWAP COMMAND 6940 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 47:36.34 360m galeon 6942 pc 8 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 0:00.02 360m galeon 6943 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 3:04.05 360m galeon 6944 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 0:03.27 360m galeon 11142 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 0:00.00 360m galeon 11143 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 0:00.03 360m galeon 11144 pc 9 0 379m 18m 5824 S 0.0 3.7 0:00.11 360m galeon Last thing I saw, the galeon processes took about 468m of virtual memory and 380m of swap. Then I left the room and when I returned galeon had silently died on me again: Sep 21 22:25:29 localhost kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 6940 (galeon). Sep 21 22:25:29 localhost kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 6942 (galeon). (etc) Any idea why galeon (1.3.17-1) is so greedy?
