I was also wondering if there were any plans to have a plugin selector or 
some way to have some filetypes being used by one plugin and some other 
filetypes by another plugin, when both plugins can handle all filetypes.

The reason for a more finegrained way of telling which mimetypes can be 
played using which plugin is because when you use mozilla-bonobo, 
mplayerplug-in, mozilla-totem, mozilla-flash, mozilla-swfdec, 
mozilla-acroread, you have so many conflicting plugins and mozilla 
currently uses (iirc) the first plugin for each mimetype.

Even just a way to disable a certain plugin would be a good start (both 
for debugging a problem as for selecting a plugin to be used for some 
media).
