This is a problem with the GtkTreeView widget, nothing that galeon
should try to fix (it can't).

Try filing a bug against gtk+ it in bugzilla.gnome.org

For adding bookmarks I right click in the bookmark folder in my toolbar.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work in the bookmarks menus because they use
bonoboui and bonoboui is crap[1] and this can't be implemented. I'll
have to add an "Add bookmark here" option in each folder, I guess.


[1] It is not really crap, but I don't like it at all after using its
api for a long time and I think it is the worst part of the gnome 2 api.
