Naturally the same package that contains the binary.

I'd try the $HOME/.local/share/applications directory (odd though it
isn't getting created when you change something in Nautilus...)

I don't know about Freenode, irc://irc.gimp.net/#gnome is to my
understanding the official gnome channel.  But YMMV.
