Yes, we have huge amounts of problems keeping on top of the mozilla API changes, (just in 1.7.5 there are problems with mailto links and images on the myportal page). To give you an idea of the problems we have, just between 1.7 and mozilla trunk there are 17 API changes that we need to track and make sure that we don't break compatibility. I seem to recall that there was a huge number between 1.6 and 1.7 as well. We will always track the latest stable release of mozilla, and versions later than that. Mozilla 1.4 was stable, and now mozilla 1.7 is the new mozilla stable branch (they don't back port security fixes to 1.6). Sorry, but you just won't be able to port the current galeon sources to mozilla 1.6, due to some huge string handling changes that have landed in our code after support for 1.4 -> 1.6 was dropped. I would definitely recommend you reconsider not shipping 1.7.x, 1.6 has lots of known security flaws.
