The way I worked around it was by running "galeon -s" at one point. This loads it in "server mode" (I think that was the term - I don't have a copy of galeon on this computer to check) so it stays in memory after the last window is closed. Opening a new window only takes a few instants (on my computer - an Athlon XP 2000+ with 512 ram). It wasn't the same as keeping the actual browser window open, but it worked well enough for me. If ever you need galeon to exit from server mode, just run "galeon -q" and it'll quit.
