Dear Crispin,  thanks for your response -- but this behaves exactly
the same as    <Nautilus> File | Open With | Other Application  
(i.e., I can add another program, but I have not been able
to make the new program the default.)

PS. What's sad is that even lesser browsers like Netscape allow 
to you bypass this Save/Open dialog altogether.  Want to open
a URL with the default application?  Just click on it.
Want to download it?  Shift-click.  No fuss.  Haven't been able to
figure out how to make it anywhere like this simple with galeon.
