That's not really what I would call a clean way to set defaults. But as pointed out to me a couple of weeks ago by Michael Mauch: See <http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.galeon.user/3234>. In short: create a .desktop file in /usr/local/share/applications (look in /usr/share/applications for examples) and run update-desktop-database. I don't know how I should do, should I want to create *personal* (rather than system) default, but is at least practical for little systems and worked very well for me.
