Everything to do with non-SMTP mail. Oh look, people have done that,
and it's called exim / postfix / ... :)

GCC's job really *is* complicated, but it is much more complicated than
it needs to be because much of it is being done in horrible ad-hocky
ways rather than using standard algorithms. This is being fixed: GCC 4.0
is a huge step along that road, and GCC is much nicer to maintain as a
consequence.

Language extensions, unmaintained targets and so on are regularly
removed from GCC specifically in order to make it simpler: but one
of our criteria is `is anybody using this {extension|target}'.
We never say `you don't really want to use that hardware platform;
you don't know what you're asking for, so we're going to remove
support for it'.

(Sometimes we *do* say `we have nobody who can maintain GCC on that
platform, so it's going unless you're willing to become the maintainer',
and `that language extension is poorly-specified; please provide a good
reason for adding it', and `that extension is totally wrong-headed' ---
like the person who asked for a #shell preprocessor conditional --- but
we don't ignore people just because they're users and therefore don't
know what they're doing. They do.)
