Start gconf-editor, there you can adjust 

/apps/galeon/UI/Tabs/tabbed_shorten,
/apps/galeon/UI/Tabs/tabbed_shorten_points,
/apps/galeon/UI/Tabs/tabbed_shorten_style,
and /apps/galeon/UI/Tabs/tabbed_vowel.
