I've long used galeon, but with its installation on a Debian Etch system, its appearance and behavior has changed. The main show-stopper has been hangs. I'm running Debian Etch without any desktop, and my Galeon is version 2.0.2. I tend to run two instances of Galeon simultaneously. Here's a typical scenario: In a mail message (rmail, emacs), there is a URL to a PDF file. I issue the command that should use that URL to open an instance of Galeon. Galeon opens, but it hangs in the following manner: After Galeon itself, there pops up a dialog that says, "Open this file with xpdf?" etc. When I ask for download, it hangs. There opens a second dialog with "chrome://global/content/CommonDialog.xul" at the top and A "Cancel" and an "OK" button at the bottom. The text area for this dialog is missing text because its display is hung. Its buttons are hung. I've never seen this dialog and wonder what it is. There opens a third download dialog, which is empty except for a Cancel button, which does not work because it is hung. The command ps aux suggests that the reason for these dialogs being incomplete and hung is a hang in galeon, for if I kill the galeon process, galeon and all three dialogs disappear.
