I go to reply to your kind note and discover that galeon once again is
hung.

Can't hold off upgrading Sarge to Etch: its already done. You speak of
using galeon 1.3.20. I thought of retreating to an older version, but
that's not satisfactory in the long run. I think I'd abandon galeon
first. 

There are various things I can do to see if I can track down the
problem, such running gdk debug if I can figure out how to do it from
man galeon. Another thing would be to try to see if the problem only
arises when I'm running two sessions of galeon at once.

I've used Galeon for years and loved it because I can do most work
from keyboard (and a few handy features). I don't run any desktop and
used galeon even though it drags is a lot of gnome stuff. I also run
a copy of firefox/iceweasal, but would prefer galeon as my primary
browser.
