Permissions problem?

I have a directory:

drwxrwxrwx   2 root  wheel      4096 11 Jan 11:36 temp


My apache user (www) cant see in there, and I cant figgure out why.

The style is mixed for the volume this is in, and there are 100s of
directories just like that in this tree, that the www user also cant get
into.
