Using 3.1.6 with HTML::Mason -- possible?

I'm new to ht://Dig -- just got a default installation up and running, and now I'm looking into the customization of the display pages. Is anyone using ht://Dig with HTML::Mason and/or mod_perl? I saw that there was a patch for 3.1.5 issued in 2001 (url-for-template), and was wondering if that was the only solution, or if there are other ways to incorporate the Mason handlers into the search page display.
