I grepped for ldconfig in the ELinks 0.11.3 and 0.13.GIT source
trees, and the only hits were in doc/ecmascript.txt, where it
explains how to check that Spidermonkey was properly installed.

As far as I can tell, configure does not use ldconfig.  Could you
clarify which version of ELinks you are trying to build, and show
the part of config.log where the detection fails?
