9.64 doesn't finish loading

Hi, I'm running Toshiba A10 laptop, 1GB, XP3 and Opera 9.64. (Opera since about 1999) I'm in rural China, ADSL with ChinaNet. It's fast enough. Opera works pretty well but a lot of links from Google, (right click -open in background) and my on-line Bank connection, open the tab but display a series of black diamonds with a question mark. FF and IE8 work okay, so I suspect Opera doesn't like any delay in responses... can I change settings in Opera-config? My bank has some 40second time-out ? I also run Opera 10? in Puppy Linux and it connects my bank...
