The black diamonds with a question mark makes it sound like an encoding issue. Is Opera set to Western and is your bank displaying Chinese characters of some sort? You can play around with it by doing View > Encoding > (set to Automatic, Unicode, or play around with some of the language-specific encodings). It could be a Great Firewall issue, though. I've had occasions working through VPN where Opera will time out on webpages or parts of webpages, but Safari will access them just fine. Opera's method of contacting pages seems to be quite different from other browsers.
