Re: want to upgrade, but ....

I have very limited experience with Opera under Linux, and none at all  
with Mac, so the following comments apply only to Windows.

I agree that the upgrade shouldn't mess up anything - Opera is pretty good  
at upgrading without upsetting existing settings.

CAUTION: I believe an exception to this is if you're using Opera's email  
client in v9.62 - Opera 10 uses a different mail format and you won't be  
able to go back to 9.62's mail format once Opera has updated. If you're  
using the email client I'd recommend backing up the mail folder so that  
you can reinstall 9.62 if you need to and then copy the mail back. On my  
system the mail folder is located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\John Silby\Local Settings\Application  
Data\Opera\Opera\mail (substitute your Windows username for my name).

I disagree with David in that in all the versions of Opera that I've used,  
the settings have NEVER been in the Program Files\Opera folder. This may  
vary between versions of Windows - I'm using Windows XP Home. The mail  
folder is as above. Some settings are in:
C:\Documents and Settings\John Silby\Local Settings\Application  
Data\Opera\Opera, but most (including the .ini files, and the bookmarks,  
notes and contacts files) are in:
C:\Documents and Settings\John Silby\Application Data\Opera\Opera.

Thus, for me at least, backing up data is not simply a matter of copying  
the Program Files\Opera folder.
