Thanks for the correction, and sorry if I led anyone astray. I started using Opera with version 6, I believe, and perhaps the default at that time was to include the mail folder (and seemingly all other settings) in the Program Files\Opera folder. It made backing up Opera very easy. I'm not sure why the developers are scattering the data across multiple folders now; it's a pity.

If you'd like to trace where all of your data is, simply go to About Opera (last I was on Windows, it was under the Help menu, but they may have moved it?). It will show you the directory paths of various directories. Backing up the mail folder and bookmarks are the critical items for most people; preferences, saved sessions, plug-in path, and user CSS may also be worth backing up. In the event that you dislike your new version of Opera, remove it and install an older version (or just move your old version back into place) and you should be set.

One final note about this process - if you install Opera and it doesn't seem to be finding your old things in their old locations, using the "About Opera" screen can be helpful. There's always a chance that Opera is looking for those items in different locations than you have them. This is more of a concern if you do a fresh install of Opera, or if you're changing operating systems (Windows to Mac OS X, for example). In those cases, you may also have to go in and do some editing of initialization files to redirect them to new directory paths, as well. It sounds worse than it is, and for you, Ruth, this isn't likely to come up for you. Just figured I'd mention it.
