If you have that link in opera already, because it's on a site you're
viewing, then you are right.

But I often have links from other locations and sources which I want to open
in opera. So I take them into my clipboard by selecting it (which
automatically copies it) and then MMB pasting them in opera as described.
This methhod is lightning fast.

Maybe I don't completely see the need for what you are requesting when one
can merely right click your link and select "Open in New Tab" or "Open in
Background Tab". I only use the "Copy Link Address" and either "Paste" or
"Paste and Go" if I don't want to open a new tab right at that time but
later on in my session.
