So there is something more to it than that.  Unfortunately, I can't
imagine how this can happen.

Maybe an ltrace or an strace could give some information.  Did you try
'-debugdns', by the way?

It is possible that we are using very short cache timeouts, I guess.  Or
even that we don't cache DNS lookups at all any more, but I would expect
that to be a significant performance issue.
