Opera running searches for valid local hostnames

Hi all,

Can anyone explain the opera:config settings to restore the traditional 
approach to unqualified local hostnames?  I've experimented with "Enable 
HostName Expansion," "Enable HostName Web Lookup," and "Check Local 
HostName" with no success, and filed bug DSK-298078 on it, but it's 
still a mystery how or even if I can get Opera to consistently behave 
the way it used to.

The specific scenario is a workstation setup with a local domain name 
"foo.net" and a DNS which will resolve "server.foo.net" to an IP.  I'd 
enter "server" into the address bar and hit Enter, Opera would query the 
local DNS for "server.foo.net" and if it got an IP would rewrite the 
address bar to "http://server/" and try to connect.

Since at least 10.53, Opera instead queries the default search provider, 
also popping up a question "Did you mean http://server/ ?"  If I click 
Yes, it adds that specific host to "IntranetHosts" and behaves properly 
for hosts in that list, but only hosts in the list.

This is probably a net gain for unskilled users and even a sensible 
default, but as a developer I choose Opera for its power and utility. 
Changes which break longstanding behaviors with no clear way to reverse 
them are one of the few criticisms I can make against an otherwise 
excellent browser.
