Yes, that's the main problem.  People just can't agree on anything :)

And having too many options is also a problem, as it makes it much
harder to deal with them.

It is possible to set (in prefs->General) "startup" to "start with speed
dial".  I would have thought that should work.  (As I said, too many
options also creates problems...)
