Ubuntu 12.04: Serious problems with operapluginwrapper-native

Hi,

I recently switched to Ubuntu 12.04, running Opera 11.64, Build 1403, on 
kernel 3.2.0-24-generic for x86_64 with "Gnome Classic" desktop 
environment. Opera is installed, and updated, through the repository 
"deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free".

Since the switch I have serious problems with browsing numerous web 
pages; trying to load certain pages freezes the browser completely for 
24-36 seconds, then the page is loaded as usual. The problems seems to 
occur only on pages where some kind of multimedial content is embedded, 
e.g. a video or certain banner ads.

Looking at the process list, there is a "operapluginwrapper-native" that 
appears as soon as the page in question is being accessed, and it 
disappears usually, when the Opera has left it's freezed stage. 
Sometimes, this comes with an increased CPU load [1], and sometimes this 
wrapper - whatever it is - crashes [2]. Load spikes and periodic crashes 
are not new, but I never encountered these annoying freezes before.

Depending on the type of pages, simple web browsing becomes a 
time-consuming nightmare; even clicking through a couple of pages on a 
news site might take several minutes, not a couple of seconds (btw, it's 
astonishing how much of this multimedia crap is creeping around 
everywhere). The bottomline is, that, on Ubuntu 12.04, Opera has changed 
from an agile to an ultra-slow browser. Other web browsers - like 
Chromium - do *not* show a similar behaviour on the same machine; 
however,  Opera is my primary browser for at least 10 years, and I 
wouldn't like to change this, so I'd rather resolve the problem than 
switch browsers.

I'd like to know, if other Opera users encounter similar issues (on 
Ubuntu 12.04 or other 64 systems), and if anyone has an idea how to fix 
this.
