Since switching to 64-bit (kernel 3.3.5, Slackware 13.37, Xfce 4.6.2, 
NVIDIA 295.49) I've noticed the behavior of the Flash plugin and Opera 
11.6x have gotten steadily worse over the last few releases of each. 
I've observed the hangs and crashes you describe when using 64-bit Flash 
11.2.r202.

My workaround was to roll back to an older Flash: 64-bit Opera 11.64 + 
Flash 11.1.r102 still have severe problems, and I'm not terribly happy 
with the security risk, but at least most flash-embedding pages are usable.

I'd suggest you enter opera:plugins in the address bar and check the 
Flash player plugin version; you could disable Flash there, which may be 
a viable workaround.  Alternatively, you may be able to get an older 
Flash plugin through Ubuntu's package repo, if you're comfortable with 
the risk.
