Preferred method for maintaining additional product fields?

Here's the deal, I've setup site that sells books. Now google will accept feeds created by EasyPopulate but here's the rub. For sites that specialize in media they will also accept author, publisher, isbn, publication date, etc., etc., depending on the media being sold. (Books, Movies, Music, Other)

Certainly it would be easy enough for me to add the fields to the products table, hack up the script to handle my changes but that won't benefit anyone else since I have about 20-25 contributions sewn through my scripts.

Some ideas that crossed my mind.
1.) Create a popup page where the additional fields could be maintained.
2.) Duplicate  the entire maintenance page with the additional fields.
3.) Kludge the thing together, screw everyone else and worry about it later how I'm ever going to update it myself.

I'd really like to here from you. If you have work in progress all the better, then you know what needs to be done.
