You're not alone. I have a heavily modded installation that I CVS update regularly and the last admin update seriously broke my administration.
Like you I had a couple of conflicts to deal with but are inconsequential when you've been doing it for so long.

The index displays but if I click on a category my PHP dumps on itself

Thinking my mods might be causing this, I checked out a clean /admin from CVS to another directory and the error still presents itself.

Hopefuly Harold can give us an idea of what may be going wrong.
