I would like the changes I am making to make it into the project as a whole. (I'm the guy that's doing the smarty development). (...)
This is exactly my point, it would be great if things like this could be developed in the open on the experimental branch.
I'm looking at maybe doing a project in osC but there is no way I can get the graphics guys to work with osC without some sort of templating system.
So far I've seen talk of the new templating system in osC proper, some talk of people like pngwen in the forums and a few seemingly abandoned contributions.

I have no way of figuring out which projects are viable. And if by the time I get green light on project start there's still no obvious solution on my radar, I guess I'll be implementing my own system.

We're all pulling in different directions and a lot of energy is being wasted. Undoubtedly some good efforts get lost in the noise and some others might have done better with more input or feedback.
Surely there, is be a better way focus these efforts?

Cheers,
Rob
