This message was sent from: Features http://forums.oscommerce.com/viewtopic.php?p=204901#204901 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hey Everyone: I have only been a memeber of these forums for a few months. But in that short time I have watched a foul transformation occurring. These forums are becoming more and more like IRC. When I first joined these pages contained information that was given in a helpful and generous spirited environment. I don't understand when someone asks a question someone else feels the need to unleash thier pent up frustrations on them. Ok! So not everyone in here is Einstien nor are they a programmer. But that is still no reason to fire off some rude comment to the person when you could just have easily offered a couple of kind words of advice. I believe that the serious people that make thier living providing web development and design services can see what I mean. Let's put the benifits of sharing the knowledge and experience of the group back to use. There are some very talented folks in this forum. Many of them take time that could be spent working on client materials to give others a ha nd in making that persons projects a success as well. For those that want only to take and take some more then not return anything except rude replies need to be banned from these resources. I admit to being a bit coarse at times but only if someone gives me similar treatment beforehand. For the people and businesses that utilize these resources in aid to design an addition to the program: "It is not right to charge for that resource." It should be offered back to the community as so many of the excellent and useful contributions have. I spend many hours reading and learning here. I feel greatly indebted for the help I have received. I have helped in return when and where I can and tried to maintain a professional courtesy while doing so. I read a thread today where some poor man joined yesterday and asked a reasonable question. The first reply was a shot telling him to basically buzz off. What is that all about? Fortunatly long term member "Loxly" was kind enough to offer the man a courteous reply and another gentleman assisted him by referring him to a solution that may better suit his needs. I actually felt a bit embarrased by the initial response this person received. These forums are a vast reservoir of experience and wisdom that are greatly being depleted by a few individuals that seem to forget: "At one time you came seeking knowledge and assistance from those who had the patience to help and the respectful realization there are people in this world at all levels." There are also those that by asking what may seem to be a STUPID question are working hard at gaining a better understanding of what they need to achieve thier goals. To be insulted for failing to understand or simply not knowing something is the absolute pinnacle of rudness and indecency. There is an old cliche: "if you can't say anything nice, it is better to say nothing at all." Everyone needs to work together again like before when you could ask a question and at least recieve a courteous reply. We are here to assist one another and degradation of character simply is not necessary nor should be permitted. I certainly place a strong vote with the moderators of all these forums to have little tolerence for such behaviour.
