This is exactly the problem the MySQL Merge Tables handler adresses by maintaining separate pot_accesslog and pot_visitors tables for each month. The tables for the months previous to the current one should be compressed by myisampack [1]. And if you want to archive your data, simply copy the tables somewhere else, for instance into a backup database. There is still room for improvement in the MySQL Merge Tables handler. One thing that comes to mind is configurable interval for which separate tables should be created, ie. one table per month, day or even one table per hour. Maybe I'll get this done for the phpOpenTracker 1.3.0 release. -- [1] http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/myisampack.html -- Sebastian Bergmann http://sebastian-bergmann.de/ http://phpOpenTracker.de/ Das Buch zu PHP 5: http://professionelle-softwareentwicklung-mit-php5.de/ ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf
