as a follow up to my problem, I have installed phpOpenTracker on another remote server and it works fine there and connects to my database without problems, so its just one particular remote server that gives me the 'could not connect to database' error and I guess their PHP does not have some feature required by phpOpenTracker. Its no problem for me to ask that server people to turn the required feature for me, but which one?
