Aaron,
Good catch-- it looks like support for *certain types* of pngs broke
at some point. I'm not sure when they stopped working but it was
probably quite some time ago.
I ran Pixory over a png test suite:
http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngsuite.html
Some of the pngs work but some don't. I haven't figured out exactly
which facets of png are broken, but it appears that transparent pngs
are definitely broken.
I'll log this bug and put it on the todo stack.
Out of curiousity, what do you use png for? (I'm guessing it's not
photographs)

Do you have the same problem with jpgs, or is it only pngs?
