> I need to rent a virtual private server and learn some commandline, Here is what I do when I'm stuck behind a firefall that's too restrictive. The instructions are for both machines running Linux; if your local host is running Windows, you'll need to download putty and change the command lines somewhat. 1. On the local host, run ssh -L 8123:localhost:8123 remote-host polipo where remote-host is the hostname of your remote machine. 2. On the local host, set your browser to use localhost:8123 for proxying both HTTP and HTTPS. If your connection to the remote host is slow, you can be a little more efficient by chaining two polipi: 1. On the local host, run polipo parentProxy=localhost:8124 ssh -L 8124:localhost:8123 remote-host polipo 2. On the local host, set your browser to use localhost:8123 for proxying both HTTP and HTTPS.
