The server is saying that this page can be cached until the second week of
August 2014.  How generous.

Actually -- no.  Polipo will not redownload an "uncachable" object, it
will merely revalidate it (check whether it needs to be downloaded again).
You can avoid that by using the relaxTransparency tweak.
