If you gave us the url to the feed, we could have run it through the 
Feed Validator at http://feedvalidator.org/ but since you didn't, you'll 
have to test it on your own.  ;)

My guess is that they just added it in there, and didn't care whether it 
was to spec or not, since the RSS spec is rather fuzzy on a bunch of 
things, and so all the RSS readers have to jump through hoops to parse 
things anyway, and adding this won't break any of them.  Which isn't to 
say that we should add it, just that that's one point of view.
