MW works okay on SourceForge, and it's by far the best-supported wiki 
package that I know of.

Yes, totally.

You should check out Semantic MediaWiki + Semantic Forms if you want 
something slick....

All I can offer is the experience of the users and developers on the 
Xbox-Linux project, who were very happy to start using a wiki when I 
suggested it to them some four or five years ago.  Of note, they were 
pleased to move from MoinMoin that I set up at first to MediaWiki later 
on....
