Yes. I noted this last week and have this changed in my private branch.

It wasn't actually a dud. It seems to have a been a real bug on the
Akismet side-- either in the software or in out-of-date API
documentation. I basically implemented a similar solution to what you
did last week as a sort of stop-gap because I was traveling and at a
developer summit for Ubuntu. I haven't had a chance to check back in on
it but from the sounds of your second mail, the issue has been resolved.
